Is this on prem? Are you using this within a Form Webpart or directly on the list? Have you tried a Form display webpart as it will display a message after submission on the same page.

It's on prem. I am using Nintex Forms directly on the list. I am not able to use a webpart.
If you create a page and use the Nintex form webpart, you can gain the functionality you are looking for. Easy to setup and test and see if it is sufficient. Then all you need to do is have a link in nav or a button anywhere to guide users to the page.
you could use 'Redirect URL' functionality and navigate to a custom page once form is submitted
