I'm doing a project where I'm using a lot the Site Collection Reusable Workflow Template and I've seen that if I export them, their size is pretty big, even a very simple template with just an action has a filesize much bigger than a classic list or site workflow and the best practice of keeping a workflow size under 500Kb is not applicable because of it.
Is there a known maximum size for that kind of workflow?

I would generally recommend that when you export it, keep to under a 1mb.
If it contains task forms, then it's hard to figure out, since they bloat out the NWF file, but don't affect the workflow.
What you'll find as your workflow grows, is that there are potentially time outs on publishing or starting the workflow. But this is different with every environment. I've seen people who have 12mb workflows (without forms in them) and they work fine.
