Don't want workflow to increase version number

We have a need to run a workflow on documents without increasing the version number of the document. This is a controlled document situation where we are audited against an approval workflow and the document version HAS to match the version that was approved. Our customer would like to send documents out for "document awareness" to make sure employees are aware of changes to the process. This workflow needs to be able to run without increasing the version number on the document and everything I have tried increases the version number.

We are using SharePoint 2013 and Nintex Workflows 2013.

Hi,

does your workflow have any update action on the document? because you are on prem, if the workflow just sends email it shouldn't update version number of the document..

There are no update actions in the workflow. A task is assigned and then when it's completed we query the TaskID so that we can create an item in a permanent History list that can be used for auditing purposes.

Dear Renee:

Are you using Major and Minor version management?

As far as I know, if you use Major / Minor, each time you run the workflow and assign a task, the minor (draft) changes but not the Major; even you have not updated document content or metadata...

You must specify the major version change when you want, using the "Protect an Element" nintex box.
