4.6.9 Upgrade Clarifications and Client Tools Issues

Symptoms


We are unable to open our project using 4.6.9 client tools. We were able to open the same using 4.5, 4.6.6 and 4.6.8 client tools. But with 4.6.9, we are facing errors as shown in the pictures attached. (starting with '4.6.9 client tools' name).

To provide more information on this, below is the history of our project -
The workflows and the server were initially built on K2.net 2003 and later, only the server was migrated to 4.5 KB001200.
As per the workflows, instead of rebuilding them for 4.5, we just opened the old files(which were built using K2.net 2003) using 4.5 client tools. So, though the file format is kprx, the underlying architecture is still K2.net 2003.
In order to open these files on K2 Blackpearl 4.5 client tools, we need to first install K2.net 2003 client tools and then 4.5 client tools.
If we don't install K2.net 2003 client tools and install only blackpearl client tools, we get the exact same error as we are getting now with 4.6.9 client tools in spite of installing K2.net 2003 client tools.

So, did 4.6.9 client tools disrupted the connection to necessary K2.net 2003 client tools? Or is it something else?

 

Diagnoses


Visual Studio 2012 will not work with Interop which is the tool that allows you to open all K2.net 2003 process.

 

Resolution

if you were using Visual Studio 2012, this version will not work with Interop which is the tool that allows you to open all K2.net 2003 process.
