K2 infopath submit button

Am I correct in believing that the K2 submit button saves the form XML to the ActivityInstance datafields, and doesn't actually save any changes to the infopath form itself? I am trying to make sense of the code generated by the infopath event wizard.

Correct - the form XML is submitted through the InfoPath webservice to the K2Server which then updates the ActivityInstanceDestination xml field. In the Succeeding rule of the Activity, the ActivityInstanceDestination level xml field is copied back to the process level xml field.
