Problem re-installing K2 Smartforms

We ran into major problems on our dev environment for K2 so had to reinstall. K2 Blackpearl installs fine and the services start, however, when I try to install Smartforms, it gets to the point where it tries to start the Host Server and then never moves beyond that. I've left it the whole day and it's still at that stage. I see the following errors in the event log :

 

8060 ProcessPacket Error, Member 'ItemId' was not found.

2025 Error Marshalling SourceCode.Deployment.Runtime.DeploymentServer.Send, Member 'ItemId' was not found.

 

 

Does anyone know how to get past this or diagnose what's happening? I've seen the post on the community about deinstalling the MS Security update, but this is on Server 2012 R2 and the security update is not visible to be uninstalled (besides the fact that that's not a good fix)

This issue is usually caused by MS Security Update, KB3083185. If that is the case, uninstalling this update will fix the issue.
