Can you trigger a workflow off an email?

Hi,

We are using Nintex and SharePoint to build our IT helpdesk ticketing system, and I was wondering if there was a way for a user to send an email (rather than completing a form) to create an item in a list and trigger the workflow?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Hi,

SharePoint does support email enabled document libraries so you might be able to use that feature. Haven't tried this myself but in theory it should work.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the suggestion.

We're currently using SharePoint online, and I thought email enabled document libraries aren't available?

Correct you cannot mail enable document libraries in SharePoint Online, only option to send mail is to the Site Mailbox, which I don't think you can set workflows on as it's actually an exchange shared mailbox and doesn't live in SharePoint.

I think there may be an example out there of using Azure App Service, though I haven't tried it myself.

Found it:

Email-enabled SharePoint Lists on Office 365 – SharePoint Community

Please let me know how it goes if you try it out.

Hi Warwick,

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm going to discuss this with our cloud expert and see what he suggests....if we try it I'll let you know.
