One sandbox environment requires 'Process Model client-side' to function same as another

We are working in two sandbox environments, and have found that in our newer, partial sandbox (staging), that we often need to check the “Process Model client-side” box to get the pages to function the same as the initial sandbox. This is especially true when those models have conditions based on other models that are getting re-queried.

Any idea why this would be different from one environment to the next? Recent update in Skuid? Other setting?
