i have a requirement wherein i want a field to appear on specific value of a ui-only field (or rather toggle it based on the value of the ui-only field). For some reasons, even though the default value of the checkbox ui-only field has been set to true (or false), it is always considered to be “null” and hence the fields dont appear on the page load.

Thanks for your question. Yes you are correct, UI-Only fields will default to the null state on existing records. The default value of the UI-Only field only applies to new records created, and doesn’t update for existing records. If you want the UI-Only field to apply to existing records, you could use a formula field to populate the UI-Only field.
