I have a pdf in share point that I would like to replace with an updated version. The link for the original pdf has already been shared, is there a way to update this file while retaining the same link/sharing privileges as the original?

How are you overriding the PDF ? When overriding the name is the same, right ? I just checked it and it works. Since the Document ID and Name in the document library is the same shared link and permissions are still there.
