I have tried to answer youur questions in the best possible ways:

What is the check list for this solution ?

1) You can upgrade to K2 Five (5.3) from K2 4.7 or K2 Five (5.0, 5.1 or 5.2).

2) If you are upgrading from a previous K2 version other than K2 Five 5.2, ensure you read the previous release notes to understand the install changes, considerations, changes in the product and requirements in each prior release. Here are the links to the previous release notes,  K2 Five (5.0), K2 Five (5.1) and K2 Five (5.2) and KB002045. 

3) The K2 installer blocks installations if your SQL Azure databases do not meet the minimum requirements. See the Compatibility and Support Matrix for the minimum supported version.

4) If you are upgrading from K2 Five (5.0, 5.1 or 5.2) and use the K2 for SharePoint app, do not run App Deployment, but only run the Registration Wizard after upgrading.

What is the risk of doing this?

1) I wouldn't say there are risks but before upgrading to K2 Five (5.3) ensure all app items in the category All Items/Apps/K2/Framework/Core, including all child categories of the Core category, are checked in. Failure to do so will result in a failed upgrade.

How long is it take ?

2) It only takes a few minutes for the process to come to an end.

BesM - I was told by K2 Support that you can't go to K2 5.3 straight from V4.7.... can you clear up any confusion here.

I was told, you must first go from v4.7 to v5.1, then make the jump to v5.3

With 4.7 to 5.2 you can't but with 4.7 to 5.3 you can upgrade.

I was still confirming the issue, It seems the upgrade issue is when you move from v4.7 to 5.2 but when upgrading from4.7 to 5.3 everything should works perfectly fine.

I will also do a repro for you to test this.
