We have file attachments control in a list.
we are looking for a way to notify user if they add duplicate files in a list of files to be uploaded to share point list.

They use JavaScript to retrieve the size of the attachment, you can use the same principle and retrieve the name of the document and notify the user if there is a duplicate.
