I have tried many times to send an email notification to the workflow originator. On the email settings I check the box next to originator and leave the "To" field blank. The error I always get is:
"The parameter addresses cannot be an empty string. Parameter name: addresses"

What you can do is replace the “To” field with an existing user and add the originator in the email body, just to see what address is going through. Add the Originator email from Workflow Context Browser >Originator Email.
