Hi,

On a scheduled basis, we copy our production data to our test environment so testers have current data.  For SharePoint we just restore the content db's.  We are wondering how others restore their production workflow databases in to their test environments.  It looks like there is quite a bit of stuff in the Nintex db's including server references.  What would be the impact of not restoring the Nintex workflow db's in our test environment?  What would be the impact if we do copy the Nintex workflow db's?  Would we have to run a script to repoint servers, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Eric Halsey

WOW... this can be a bit iffy as you have references as you've found. Part of the thought is do your users need to test and run their workflows once restored. If not then you could get away with just moving the workflow history if needed and be good. If they need to rerun their workflows in test for some reason then you would need to plan for that and ensure that your databases are backed up in sync.  Nothing like actually testing this out to ensure everything is being captured correctly.

Just my thoughts... I've done a restore in an Enterprise with 100k+ users and over 89 Content DB's.  It was a fun weekend though and we did have issues with workflows moving.  But after doing it a few times on a smaller scale we figured out how to keep the databases in sync and it worked at least once 🙂.
