Symptoms


The user was added to the 'Everyone' group of SharePoint which in turn was made a subgroup of the 'Owners' group which was then given the Start rights via the SharePoint App configuration and via the K2 workspace, but still get "The current logged in user did not have start rights for the selected workflow." from the K2 workflow screen. Running the K2 permissions sync had no affect.
 

Diagnoses


The Everyone group in SharePoint has the capacity to contain non-authenticated users and it would seem that that was the hang up in this instance.


 

Resolution

By adding the user to an AD group which by design contained all the relevant parties and granting that group Star Rights the client was able to accomplish the mission of having the target user start a workflow
