Symptoms

SharePoint Integrated workflows will remain in progress if K2 Workflow fails to start

Diagnoses

When a SharePoint integrated workflow is triggered in SharePoint and calls K2 to start the corresponding K2 process if the K2 process fails to start due to the user not having start rights or other errors the Workflow in SharePoint is left in the status "In progress". This means that the end user has no way of knowing that their process failed to start.

Resolution

The State Control, this is the workflow foundation (SharePoint Functionality) control that updates the state from "In Progress”, “Failed” does not seem to work properly, we have discussed possible ways around this.
Currently we are unaware of a way to update the status of a workflow, without this control.
So from this investigation we have done, it currently seems that this is not possible.

However our labs team is still looking into this. And a feature request has been logged
