Kindly use the DTCTester to verify that communication is open from the K2 Server to the SQL Server and vice versa.
The DTCTester tool is located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293799
It needs to succeed to the K2 Server from the SQL Server and vice versa to verify, clearly.

Also please check
When the IT installed DTC on the SQL server did he restart the SQL server machine?
if so please restart the Instance.
Also please try to Change DTC configured to No Authentication Required. then Restart all the DTC services on all servers
