Symptoms

Suppose you have the following task/requirement: to have a form where user can pull some person's information from Active Directory and some other information linked to that person from other database and subsequently save this information to another database (let's say create new entry in specific table). Does Data Event a good option for this?
 

Diagnoses

In general for scenario described above both Data Event - Transfer data or K2 smarforms form rules for data transfer can be used.
The difference here is the way data event is triggered: Data Event is a server side event which may be triggered w/o user interaction as a step of workflow, whereas with form rules it is necessary for user to somehow trigger data write event (e.g. click on button). But in any case it will be necessary to have your destination for writing aggregated data surfaced as a SmartObject.
