When you say Modified Date do you mean last time somebody interacted with a particular workflow instance?

If you have the "Create Workflow SmartObjects" option selected on the workflow you should be able to make use of the reporting SmartObjects to get this info.  You will have to look at either Activity or event level to determine the last time somebody interacted with the process instance using the Finish Date of the object
