Symptoms

PDFConverter - Varying Quality Output

Diagnoses

We are using the K2 PDFConverter service to convert an HTML file into a PDF file.

We have developed this on one K2 Server (Dev2) and we are seeing a good quality pdf being generated (see PDF Convert Test From Dev2.pdf and PDF Convert Test Simple_FromDev2.pdf attached).

When we have deployed this into our test environment, that is identical to development as far as we are aware, we are getting a quite different output (see PDF Convert Test From Dev1.pdf and PDF Convert Test Simple_FromDev1.pdf attached) – note the pixilation etc.

Resolution

a)The version of IE installed on the K2 Server (We have found that anything before IE9 would produce sub-par PDF quality in some cases

b)The Method used by the PDF Converter Service instance . Go edit the Service Instance in the SMO Tester Tool and you will see a useWebKit option . Enable this to see if the quality improves . There is also a Serialization option . Experiment with different combinations of the 2 settings to see if you can see any improvements . Please note that before testing with a new set of settings , IIS Reset , Clear Browser Cache , Restart K2 Service
