Symptoms

"Object Reference set to NULL" error while attempting installation.

Setup for K2 for SharePoint launches
Chose "Configure" as the option
Error screen pops up "Object reference set to NULL"
Close error
Can actually continue with the Configuration, but the installation hangs on "Validating Server"
 

Diagnoses

Known error. Requires configuration of client tools and a coldfix.
 

Resolution

We removed the K2 for SharePoint client tools installation and the Smartforms Client Tools Installation form the server, performed a Configure for the K2 BlackPearl Client Tools, installed the SmartForms Client Tools and applied the the coldfix to the K2 For SharePoint Installation Folder. After that we executed the K2 For sharepoint 1.0.1 Installation and everything ran as expected. We were able to install the K2 for SharePoint client tools 2013 without issues.
