When i configure an escalation email for multiple approvers, it sends the escalation message of all of the approvers in the group to each of them, hence, each of the approvers gets the escalation message of every of the approver in the group.

For example, if the approving officers are Joe, John, Terry and Roy. A Joe for example would get four messages, one addressing him and one addressing each of the other three guys. Please how do i resolve this?

1.  How is the destination planning configured for this client event?

2.  Are you using an Activity Level escalation or Event Level escalation?

3.  How is the email escalation configured? With regards to the recipient aspect?

Perhaps you are seeking for an Event Level escalation with the 'Destination User' option during the email configuration.

Used an event level escalation. As shown in the first image below, used refrence SMO as recepient . In the second image, used destination user as recepient. The destination plan for the activity is "All at once". Yet, i  got the same result which is that it sends the escalation message of all of the approvers in the destination to each of them instaed of just their own escalation message

You need to go to the activity and the destination rule, click back and check advanced and then click next, select "Plan per destination - all at once" and on the next screen select "Create a slot for each Destination" and "resolve all roles and Groups to users" Now when you use an event escalation rule it should just email the ones who have not completed their tasks.

Hope this helps. I personally think the user guide does not explain this well at all.

I forgot one other thing in the email To line you need to use "ActivityInstanceDestUserEmail" you can find this under the "activity Destination Instance: in the context browser.
