Hi, I'm wondering if it's (easily) possible to create a generic group in K2.  Essentially I need to create a group separate of AD that just contains a list of email addresses.  Using these email addresses I could easily assign tasks.  This enables management of this generic group without needing knowledge of how to manage AD groups.  I'm looking for something that may be built into K2. I could obviously build this using smartbox SO's and a simple form.

Thanks,

Hi SethYukna,

Haven't looked at this deeply, but this sounds like an application for K2 roles:

Thanks Mike, I saw that, but it still needs to pull data from a Smart Object (or a domain).  That may be the solution but I was hoping I could just add the users without creating one..unless some else has an idea.

Hi,

In K2, any user that is a task must be from a Security Provider (User Manager), defined as a security label.

You might have noticed the fully qualified names are prefixed with K2:.

Therefore, unless you create your own security provider which then hosts the list of groups and members somewhere else, it won't be possible because you will need to at some point have a valid AD user which the email address is not.

If you are interested in exploring a custom security provider, see the sample on the developer reference:

http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/k2blackpearl/DevRef/4.6.9/default.htm#Creating_a_Custom_User_Manager.html

Hope this helps!

JohanL
