Symptoms

Need a workflow event that pauses the workflow for x day/minutes/seconds.

Diagnoses

At the moment there is no direct workflow event that will do this, but a workaround is possible.

Resolution

Create a 'User Task' event with a single action and a destination user. Right click on the event to add an escalation and configure it to 'Expire' after 5 days. Add an additional outcome that leads to the rest of your workflow. After 5 days of no action, the user task will expire and lead down the condition-free outcome and continue your workflow.

The 'dummy' action and its outcome are required to pass deployment validation. It's recommended to leave the 'Notify' option unchecked so that emails aren't sent out for the dummy user task, and specify a destination user account that doesn't regularly action user tasks, as this dummy task will show up on their worklist. Additionally, you could use said account to monitor all the "sleeping" workflows via the worklist, though you can do that through Appit reporting as well.
