I am trying to build a workflow that has a task for a developer to build a file. After the file is complete, control will be passed to an Analyst to validate the file. I am using a flexi task for the Analyst to approve or reject the validation. But, what type of task would I use for the initial task where the Developer builds a file? I was trying to use the Assign to-do task, but I am not sure how the task is flagged as complete and move to the flexi task. Does this make sense?

The To-Do task is just like a regular SharePoint task. The user would complete it the same way you’d complete a task you manually create on a SharePoint task list. You’d either change the status to “Complete”, or check the complete box in a list view.
Eric Rhodes has a good post here on modifying the To-Do form if you wanted to make the process for completing the task simpler.
Thank you. So, just to clarify, is the To-Do task the best thing to use in this case?
Yes, I’d say so. Since you’re assigning someone a task to do, and not something to approve/reject, the To-Do task is the one to use.
