I have a workflow (Nintex Workflow 2007) used for approvals. It has been running smoothly for the most part for almost a year. Now the workflow task will error at a certain point (always the same).  The error message is "Failed to send notification. Cannot retrieve the information for application credential key".

Any ideas why this error is occurring, suddenly.

Do you have a trust to another domain in your farm for AD? If so, then the trust may have issues if an accounts password is not longer valid, or the credential itself is no longer valid.

If not, then a credential used in the workflow could be invalid by the same means in some action. Maybe the Publisher of the workflow whose account is now disabled.
