Symptoms


When navigating to any smartforms form, users receive the error "the system cannot find the file specified." Looking at the logs, K2 appears to be complaining about connecting to the database.

8060 ProcessPacket Error, A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

2025 Error Marshalling SourceCode.Forms.Runtime.ManagementServer.GetControlTypesAx, A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Diagnoses


-Turn on the K2 hostserver logging with the IncludeStackTrace option, link below.
-The error message is related to SourceCode.Forms.Runtime.config file.

Resolution

The .config was accidentally removed and replaced with a log file. Removing the bad .config file from the Hostserverin folder and performing a K2 smartforms repair via the smartforms installer media resolved the issue.
