Symptoms

Yesterday and on a couple of earlier occasions, some of our users have experienced an error while trying to open SmartForms. Instead of the form opening they get the error message: “Control type ‘GUID’ not found “ (with GUID containing an actual GUID).
We have not been able to resolve the error by other means than to restart the IIS App Pool containing the SmartForms web application. Do you have any idea what may be causing this and if there is anything we can do to prevent it from happening again?

Diagnoses

No custom SmartForms controls installed / deployed. Restarting the app pool removes the error for a while but eventually it comes back.

Please check the following table in your K2 database:
aForm]. ControlType]
use a Where clause to try and find the GUID you can see in the error message. If that GUID does exist in the table, please export that table to CSV, I want to see what the value is for the "SettingItemsMethod" column for that GUID.

If the GUID does not exist in that table, then we know that's where the problem is.

Seems like 2 ControlType errors are occurring with different GUIDs. It seems like it is one control type at the time.

"ControlType F50F343F-2156-4BA6-8FFD-79E2BD33B4B2 not found" and
"ControlType 25CE6F26-9A09-4E75-82CC-F6BBD49B3404 not found"

Please note K2 version is 4.6.8 and SF 1.0.7 on Production.

Resolution

Ticket linked to TFS item and coldfix was sent which resolved the issue. The coldfix was a potential fix and unique to the SmartForms of the customer.
