Trying to configure an environment to run 2 or more K2 Servers not in a farm using the same backend database.
 

Diagnoses

If you have a K2 farm (setup and installed as a farm), which consists of 2 servers (K2 Core and Smartforms)

1) Is it possible to run 2 x K2 standalone servers, with the same backend database?

2) Is it possible to convert a farm with 2 servers, into to stand alone servers with the same backend database?

3) How easy is this above to do is possible?

4) Is this type of configuration supported?

Below are answers to the above questions:

1) Is it possible to run 2 x K2 standalone servers, with the same backend database?
Unfortunately it is not possible to do so as you must have two separate DBs for each standalone installation. It is possible to have the same SQL service instance but not on one backend DB as Data would conflict with each other.

2) Is it possible to convert a farm with 2 servers, into to stand alone servers with the same backend database?
After reaching out to one of the members of our services team in regards to your question, it would be possible to do so but at the same time it may be a bit tricky. If you have any processes it would be best export these and then re-deploy the procesess to another server.

3) How easy is this above to do is possible?
As stated above it could prove to be quite a task and it is advised to contact your local services team in order carry out the task correctly.


4) Is this configuration supported?
Yes the configuration is supported but by the services team and they will be able to better assist you.
