This Functionality is currently not achievable. I suggest that you log a K2 support ticket as a feature request for this functionality, this way the relevant personel will look at your request and log it as a feature request.

If you know what the default value is always going to be then you can always call a transfer data rule and transfer the value "bob" for example to the drop down list control. Also if you dont want anything to be selected at the started then untick the "allow empty selection" checkbox on the drop down list controls properties.
