Is it necessary to install .Net runtime in client computer in order to view
the processes in the Workspace?

It seems that it is not necessary because it should be processed by server and the browser only displays the result. But I want to make sure.
The client machine must have the .net framework installed in order to view the flow diagrams from workspace. The reason for this because the server only passes xml to the client and the image is then rendered by an activex control on the client machine.

To follow up: It isn't possible to just install the activeX control on the client?

It is not possible to just install the activex control because the activex control requires the .net framework so any machine that needs to see the viewflow will have to have the .net framework installed.
