Symptoms
The client is using the 'Copy Document Event’ and ' Update Metadata Event’. However, this approach seems to generate 3 versions of the document by the time it gets through the process. There is a kind of mismatch between the source and the copied documents. Is there a way to get around this or a better approach that you could suggest
Diagnoses
It seems that the copy and move action firstly copies the document over and creates version 1 and after the copy was done then moves/copies the metadata over and it seems SharePoint is then perceiving this as a 2nd versions. The Update Metadata Event then creates the 3rd Version.?
Resolution
The issue was successfully reproduced and a new TFS item was created for this issue.
The only workaround was to change the version settings in the Library Settings to use “Create major and minor (draft) versions”. This will create a Version 0 and then update it to 0.3 when the workflow ends.
