If you want to control the permissions groups have for working with Appit, you can do this by configuring K2 permissions in Appit Settings. Go to your Site Collection and click on Appit. Then you will see Configure K2 Permissions under the Permissions section.

At this screen you want to click on Configure K2 Permissions. Here you will see the option to specify Solution Designers (groups that can design Smartobjects, views, forms, and workflows) or specify Solution Participants (groups that, at the time of workflow deployment, can start and view information about workflows they participate in).
