According to the documentation, Microsoft CRM is required. Is this just for CRM integration, or are there features that K2 relies on for operation apart from the CRM application itself?
Our organization doesn't use CRM, so I would like to avoid having to install it if possible.

Microsoft CRM is an optional component which you can safely skip. Its only of use if your organization uses Microsoft CRM.
Same for SSRS, SmartActions and Exchange Administration Integration.
