Symptoms

When adding second SharePoint server to SP farm to balance workload is it necessary to do anything K2 side when you add extra server into SharePoint 2013 farm?

Diagnoses

Answer depends on the version of SharePoint you are using as we integrate differently with SharePoint 2010 and 2013.

For SharePoint 2013:

If you adding a new SharePoint server to a farm you do not need to do anything from K2 side.
Extra actions will be necessary only in the following scenarios:
1. If you add a new site collection to a Web Application that already has an app Catalog, that the app has already been deployed to via the AppDeployment.exe then you need to just add the app to the site and run the Registration Wizard.
2. If you create a new web application with a new App catalog then you need to run the AppDeployment.exe, followed by adding the app to the new site collection and run the Registration Wizard.

For SharePoint 2010:

For SharePoint 2010 you need to run the K2 blackpearl installation on all the SharePoint servers in the farm selecting the K2 for SharePoint component. If you are adding new SharePoint server you need to run the installer and the SharePoint Configuration wizard on the server. Refer to the following section of K2 documentation for details:
http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp-staging/k2blackpearl/icg/current/default.htm_install/manual/sf/sf_k24sp2010.htm

Resolution

See details above. No extra actions required for SharePoint 2013. There is also an existing documentation update request to update the K2 for SharePoint distributed Farm help topic with information on adding additional SharePoint servers.
