Accessing K2 Instance data in InfoPath

I have created an InfoPath form which has 3 views and I want to allow certain form fields to be required or visible depending on what the current view is as set by K2. When you link a K2 workflow to an InfoPath form it inserts several fields into the main data source which it uses to store instance data. Is it possible for me to insert these fields into my InfoPath form using an xsd prior to linking the K2 workflow to the form? I don't want to have to publish the form, link it to K2, then add my validation logic after having it linked to the K2 workflow.
