The Nintex 2013 install guide has some confusing/conflicting statements about which SharePoint server to run the install on - Page 8 has 2 boxes:
Does the advice to run on the Central Admin (my app server) box override the statement that Forms should be run on a WFE? NB I want to install Nintex Live. Like most sites, we do not have Central Admin role on our WFE.
It's a little bit annoying but I encourage you to go for the front-end. With the coming of SharePoint Server 2016 aka MinRole topology all 3the party tools should go to a dedicated role like "custom" => MinRole overview . If the Central Administration is really required, then you can start it via the services.
