Workflow timing out

I have a simple workflow that sends out an email to a committee of people for approval, once all approve, I get an email back telling me all have approved and we can move forward. The issue is not everyone approves right away and it may take a day or 2 to collect all approvals. The issue is when that person does go in to approve, they say it no longer works, but it says it is in progress on the sharepoint. Is there a way to increase the approval window?

can you post how does your workflow look like, and configuration of task action?

there is no limitation until when the task should be approved, it could be months or years.

but it might be influenced by how did you configure task action behavior.

I just wonder, cannot it happen assignees mix up notification of two tasks?

like they already have assigned 2nd task but click a link from first task's notification mail?

can you clarify what exactly does it mean "they say it no longer works"? what error do they get?

when you check workflow history can you see tasks assigned and still pending/active?
