Scheduled site workflow notifications not working

I have an interesting issue. I have a site workflow that scans for 'Properties' whose lease is about to expire. When it finds a property, it sends a notification to a specified user that the lease is nearing its end. Everything is fine if i start this workflow manually. However, when the workflow is scheduled, everything is fine *except* the notification email. The workflow runs through exactly the same. No errors, logging is there, identical to when run manually. You can't actually tell anything has gone wrong except for the fact that no notification email is send when the workflow is run via the schedule.

 

Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I'm running Nintex 2010 Workflow 2.4.4.11 (DB version 2.0.2.7)

Ok, so anonymous relay wasn't setup in exchange for the SharePoint App server. The ip address for the app server was added to exchange and now all is well
