Workflow Error: Missing reference at Line 26 Error while trying to resolve the following reference

Badge +8

I added a task to a workflow, and now it will not deploy.

Google says to check the context browser for any blank references, or references which do not expand.

I do not see the problem.  It seems such a pain to have to delete the workflow and start over.

Anyone know what could be causing this non descript error?  Not lovin workflow.

Hi,

I will recommend you log a support ticket with K2 for this issue. The error is coming from DefaultLine 26. This is the name of a line. To determine which line is throwing the error, you have to examine the workflow definition. Alternatively, if your workflow is not too complicated, you can select each line in your workflow, and check if are are referencing anything in the line. If you cannot spot anything, try removing all the lines, and recreate them. That's better than deleting the entire workflow and recreating them.

We are running K2 5.2, and had applied latest fixpacks as of about a month ago, So I am just assuming the fixpack with 5.1 is already taken care of.

Thanks for responding; I don't think this is a fix.

Thanks for replying.

I call every workflow complicated.  I have not had a one where it has worked, and I haven't had to go and recreate the workflow.

I think I have to start dissasembling the workflow from the end step and removing things until I do find what is wrong.  The alternative is to just start over.

I have logged a ticket with K2, and they suggest creating a workflow with the reference mentioned.  That's the thing, there is no reference...the error message describes root and nothing specific to any step.

Thanks!

Good day   @BKlaege

Please drill into the following kb(https://help.k2.com/kbs100147) as issue similar was resolved from support ticket.

FWIW - Remember ... The K2 Workflow Editor is a web page ...   I've found, when in the K2 Workflow Editor, and there is an error (red), I open up the browser F12 / Tools window and use the Element screen to inspect the error message.

The full error message will be visible in the Developer Tools Inspect screen.  The key information of the error was at the very end of the message which was not visible in the Workflow Designer.

Thanx!

Thanks for replying Jeff

I can open the windows that you mention, but I don't glean any additional information on the error message.

I am not a web developer per se; so nothing to remember, but took a look anyway.   Anything is worth a look.

It would be nice if the error message just contained what it was trying to find; that might have been helpful.  Hopefully K2 will get easier to use over time... it is only at version 5.

Thanks!

Hi BKlaege,

Perhaps, you can enable the workflow logging per this KB (http://help.k2.com/kb002684) to get more details out of the issue. I would highly suggest logging a K2 support ticket, please provide a copy of the log file and the workflow definition file, see attachment. The error seems to be related to an orphaned node and will need further review of the .json file.

Thanks Khanh,

I have logged a ticket with K2, and we have uploaded a JSON file for review.

Sometimes it may just be easier to start redoing everything with workflow; just it is one of my least favorite things to do, and there is no rhyme or reason for what is wrong with K2; based on the lack of meaningful error messages put out by the tool.  I think Citizen Developer.... or not.

If K2 support wants to increase logging, that sounds like a good next step.  Thanks for your help!
