With InspireX nearly upon us, I spent some time yesterday looking over all of the sessions that are going on. There is a ton of cool content and session going on over the course of the conference, and I have to say, I feel like I am going to miss out on something! A big announcement or cool session that I just cannot make it to! I cannot be in more than one place no matter how much my wife tries to make me! So I got thinking, "how can I keep track of everything that is going on and get the cool, exciting news in real time?" TWITTER!

Now am I not one for being glued to my phone and miss what is right in front of me, so how can I get the tweets I care and want to know about in a place that I can read through when I want. Then it dawned on me, why not use a FLOW! I can setup a Flow to search the "twitter-sphere" for #InspireX, #Nintex, and #NINx17 and create an item in a list within my tenant!

So let's take a look at how incredibly easy this is to setup!

Create a list

This is pretty straightforward, but you will need to think about what you want to capture. There is quite a bit of information that is returned in the twitter API, so think about what exactly you want/need and focus on those pieces. For me, I created a column for:

  • Tweet Text
  • Screen Name of User (this is the user name e.g. jesse_mchargue)
  • Location
  • Name of User (this one is the actual name e.g. Jesse McHargue)

Create a Flow

When creating a Flow, you can do this manually, but I recommend starting with the template that is provided.

Of course, you'll need to login to to each (SharePoint and Twitter) in order to continue (I am already setup):

Once in the designer of Flow, simply enter in the term(s) you want to search (be careful with twitter search syntax!):

Then map the content to your fields:

Give it a name, and click Create flow!

Once you are done, you will see your flow (along with any others you may have in place already):

I will not spend too much time going over everything here, but from this screen, you can easily turn on/off a flow, check any runs (success, failures, etc), and add other users to allow edits.

So let's give it a shot!

....and here it is in the list!

Sure I could just go into twitter.com and search on #InspireX, #Nintex, or #NINx17, but this pushes the tweets right into a list that I can then promote to my company or team to keep them up-to-date as well!

Very excellent! A Nintex answer to Hootsuite
