That means you are using Folder or Project level's working hour setting (an inherited setting) instead of each process having its own unique set of working hours.

Do you have any escalation rule that might expire this activity? Or do you utilize sleep function?

There is an activity in the workflow.

The work item waits for the approver for over 3 weeks, when the approver tries to open the item, the message is "Activity expires". What does it mean? The approver is the only one in the destination queue, no one else has approved it. If this work item is redirected back the approver, then it works.

What is causing this "expiry"?

Also what does "Working Hours" and "Using working hours as setup for parent" mean? (See attached picture).
