ISSUE
When running workflows in SharePoint, the workflows are not processing and the following message is displayed on the workflow status page:

Due to heavy load, the latest workflow operation has been queued. It will attempt to resume at a later time

RESOLUTION
  1. Identify the largest workflow history lists within the SharePoint environment.
  2. Using the steps outlined on the Nintex Community post for purging large history lists, bring the lists back within recommended limits. Microsoft recommends keeping these lists under 10,000 items
