Authentication changes for CRM online integration with K2

KB003390

PRODUCT
K2 Five
K2 blackpearl
TAGS
Microsoft Dynamics CRM online authentication
WS-Trust

Microsoft deprecated the WS-Trust authentication type (also known as Office365 authentication type) in April 2022. This impacts K2 Five and K2 blackpearl integration with CRM online and requires you to use OAuth to authenticate. Configure this using the actions listed in the sections below.

You can find more information about Microsoft's authentication deprecation in these articles:

If you are integrating your K2 environment with CRM online, you may get the following error when trying to refresh your CRM online service instance or execute any CRM online related SmartObject:

"An error occurred when processing the security tokens in the message: You are using Ws-Trust authentication which has been deprecated and no longer supported in your environment. Please use OAuth 2.0 authentication."

Follow the steps listed for your environment below to correct the issue.

K2 Five (5.4) and (5.5)

When integrating CRM online with one of the following:

  • K2 Five (5.4) with the November 2021 Cumulative Update and Fix Pack 8, released on the 25th of Feb 2022
  • K2 Five (5.5)

Make sure to set the Use OAuth Protocol with Static credentials Service Keys setting to true on the Service Instance Configuration Settings page in K2 Management. If you had configured the CRM Service Type in the past, make sure to go update the Service Key setting.

See the Dynamics CRM topic in the help guide for more information.

K2 blackpearl and K2 Five (5.1) to (5.3)

If you are using K2 blackpearl or K2 Five (5.1) to (5.3) environments with CRM online integration, you must upgrade to at least K2 Five (5.4) with the November 2021 Cumulative Update and Fix Pack 8, or you will get an error processing the security token and your CRM integration will not work.
