Issue

Reports of Foxtrot and RPA getting stuck on the splash screen of the bot are happening after a Windows update is installed. We have identified Windows update KB5002160 which is for Microsoft Office 2016, and we believe this is causing the issue. This article may be updated as we learn more. Our resolutions are below. (last updated March 31, 2022)

Resolution

We have found for most users; the following steps will resolve the issue:

- Uninstall Foxtrot/RPA

- Reboot machine

- Re-install Foxtrot/RPA

- Launch the application and it should run as expected

For a few users, these steps did not work. For these users, upgrading to a newer version is what resolved their issue. In that case, you should uninstall, reboot, install upgrade.

If you are on a concurrent license, then you can upgrade to version 15.1.13 if you are not already using it. This version is listed at the bottom of the Release Notes page that is noted below in the Related Links section.

If you are already using version 15.1.13 with a concurrent license, you would need to upgrade your license to an Enterprise license, and then you can upgrade to the newest version listed at the top of the Release Notes page (link in Related Links Section).

If you are on an Enterprise license, please upgrade to the newest version listed at the top of the Release Notes page in the Related Links section below.

You can remove the Microsoft Windows update, #KB5002160, but you should read about it on the Microsoft website first at:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/march-1-2022-update-for-office-2016-kb5002160-ea85e74b-78af-46dd-882f-7767e88a636e

**Please consult your System Admin or IT Department before removing any Microsoft Update.

Our suggestion is to:

1. uninstall, reboot, re-install, or
2. uninstall, reboot, upgrade.

***If you have Foxtrot 15.1.2 or below and Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 is installed, you will need to uninstall MS Access Database Engine 2010 and when you run the installer for version 15.1.13, it will install MS Access Database Engine 2016 while installing the upgrade.

Additional Information

If you are on a concurrent license and you are running version 15.1.13, you can try to uninstall that version, go down one version to v15.1.12 and then reboot and see if that resolves your issue. If not, then move back up to version 15.1.13 and reboot to resolve. We believe that if you install a newer version, it installs on top of the update and resolves the issue.

If you are running version 15.1.12, the download for version 15.1.10 is below.
