This seems to be a question that we get a lot, so I am just going to post this here for anyone who may want to know in the future.

The question is, what authentication types for the K2 Runtime site should be enabled? Does this differ depending on the architecture of the server (standalone versus distributed)?

And now the answer.

K2 suggests that you always build your environments to use Forms and Anonymous Authentication. This is the way that our websites are designed. Windows Authentication can be used, but it usually requires the use of Kerberos.

We were told the complete opposite and K2 set us up to use Windows auth for all Runtime stuff.

Again depends on your environment, but if your users are AD-domain based, Windows Auth is easily to use both on and off site.
