Can someone look at this and see if the approach is good and provide a solution.

Problem statement:
Unable to update Managed metadata column values from a list to a document
library in a Nintex Workflow.

Scenario:

We have list (Process List) with some managed metadata
columns (Department, Year) and a few other regular list columns (Process Name) as
metadata. The ID Column is used as a lookup column in the Document library.

A document library is created which has one lookup column (Process
ID) to a list item above and similar managed metadata columns(Department, Year).
The title column in the document library is set to required.

When a document is added to the document library, the lookup
column (Process ID) value is set by selecting one of the existing values from
the list. On addition of the document to the library, a Nintex workflow
executes.

The workflow picks up the selected Process ID and queries
the Process list for the Metadata values. The Document library MMD columns are
assigned these values and the document is updated with the metadata.

During the update, Year (values 2011, 2012, 2013… etc) gets
updated, but the Department values are not updated (Acme Incorporated, Acme
Research etc).

The MMD values are not store in variables during the
workflow execution, but directly assigned as List lookup values.
