Use regular expression to insert white space

I've set up a regular expression which removes all carriage returns "\r\n" from a multiline text field.

I want Nintex to replace each of these with a single white space " ", so I go into the 'replacement text' box, hit the space bar and save the action (see screenshot).

However,if I then go back into the configure action dialogue, the space I put in has disappeared and the replacement text box is empty.

Is anyone able to point out where I'm going wrong, or perhaps suggest a better way of doing this? All comments gratefully received
