Task Completes, but I get Invalid WorkflowInstanceID parameter in URL

Question asked by sverem on Oct 25, 2018

I have an issue with my SharePoint workflow task. The task opens and can be completed, but as soon as the user completes the task, they get the "Invalid WorkflowInstanceID parameter in URL" message on the screen. Is there a way to get rid of it?

Additional details:

This happens when I use the Microsoft Edge browser.

This happens when I access the task form from the Workflow Status page > Tasks list. The URL for the task form is:

{Site URL}/_Layouts/listform.aspx?PageType=4&ListId={2D8E5707-0EC9-48C9-BEAD-93CC7C9CD84B}&ID=2976

Doesn't happen when I access the task from the Workflow Tasks. The URL for the task form is:
{Site URL}/_layouts/15/listform.aspx?PageType=4&ListId=%7B2D8E5707%2D0EC9%2D48C9%2DBEAD%2D93CC7C9CD84B%7D&ID=2976&ContentTypeID=0x0108010064E42B14ADA442C78E98D686760A8493000568DBB766D0491684897A230753AAF900D19E29A5001B9542B306812C068AB500

Doesn't happen when I access the task from the email URL.

{Site URL}/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc={Document URL}&action=default&OpenIn=browser

The URL of the error page is {Site URL}/_layouts/15/WrkStat.aspx?Paged=TRUE&p_ID=2963&View=%7b811E972A%2dFC6B%2d417E%2d8BFB%2d193665C67941%7d&FolderCTID=0x012001&PageFirstRow=31.

One workaround for this is to go into every task form > Settings > Advanced > Redirect URL and specify it to be the URL of the list or home page or whatever page that will surely work.
