Configuration of SMTP and Email Notification

I have configured smtp and email notification for a client and it works perfectly. I have tried the same configuration on my demo system but notification came for a few processes and now it has stopped. I have tried re-configuring from scratch but i still did not work. I then created a new smtp server on a different server and redirected the nintex global configuration tom it. It also worked for a few minutes and stopped. What could be the problem?
